During my stay in Oman, a major ornithological sensation occurred – on February 3, 2026, on the lawn in front of the Juweira Boutique Hotel, I observed and photographed a Slaty-breasted Rail (Liwinia striata). This is the first observation of this species in the wild in Oman and also its first record in the Western Palearctic. The Slaty-breasted Rail (Liwinia striata) Water Rail is a sedentary bird, leading a secretive lifestyle near water, not particularly keen on flying, and primarily moving on its feet, foraging on the ground among dense vegetation. The species' geographical range covers areas of southern Asia from India to China and Indonesia.
